Are you ready to bring your A-game to the court?
The South Coast Summer Classic is back for 2025 – and it’s set to be another incredible weekend of fast-paced, high-intensity basketball!

As always, we follow standard FIBA rules, with some exciting tweaks to suit the flow of the tournament across both days.

⚠️ Please note: Game durations are subject to change. Final timings will be confirmed closer to the event.

📅 Day 1: Quick-Fire Showdowns ⚡

Day 1 brings a high-energy format designed to keep games moving and players on their toes. Be prepared for back-to-back action where every possession matters!

  • 🕒 Game Duration: Each game consists of 2 x 10-minute halves with a 1-minute halftime – Game durations will be finalised closer to the time.

  • 🔔 Start Signal: A 3-minute warning whistle will signal the start of your game time slot—be ready to tip off.

  • Timeouts: 1 timeout per team per game (1 minute).

  • 🎯 Overtime: If tied, games go into golden basket—first team to score wins, starting with a jump ball.

  • 🏀 Free Throws: One made free throw = full points. If awarded at the end of the half, clock stops with 5 seconds left to allow the shot.

  • 🔄 Substitutions: Can be made during dead balls or after made baskets—notify the table.

  • ⚖️ Referee Interaction: Pass the ball to the ref on both ends to keep things flowing.

  • 🚫 Player Conduct & Safety:

    • No jewelry.

    • Cover non-removable studs with tape.

    • Keep nails short and maintain hygiene.

  • 🔍 Fouls:

    • 4 personal fouls per player.

    • 5 team fouls per half before bonus.

  • 🛑 Sportsmanship: Unsportsmanlike or dangerous conduct may result in game suspensions or ejection from the tournament. Play hard, play fair.

 

🏆 Day 2: Championship-Level Play

Day 2 is all about intensity and execution. With full FIBA rules (and a few tweaks), it’s time to lock in and leave it all on the floor.

  • 🕒 Game Duration: 10-minute quarters with a running clock. (Allocated 1-hour slot)
    Clock stops in the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter.

  • Timeouts: 1 timeout per half. Rolls over if unused. No additional timeouts for overtime.

  • Overtime: 2-minute period with a stopping clock, beginning with a jump ball.

  • 🏀 Free Throws: As per standard FIBA rules.

  • 🔄 Subs: Allowed on dead balls only—no subs after made baskets.

Get Ready for the South Coast Summer Classic 2024! 🏀

Are you ready to bring your A-game to the courts? The South Coast Summer Classic is back, and this year’s tournament promises to be more intense and thrilling than ever!

Rules are usual FIBA rules, but with tweaks for day 1 and 2 as can be seen below.

Day 1: Quick-Fire Showdowns ⚡

Tip off the action with fast-paced games designed to test your skills and strategy. With two 10-minute halves, there’s no time to waste! Overtime? It’s all about that golden basket—make or break with a single shot. Our refs will keep things moving, so stay sharp, keep it clean, and bring your best.

  • 🕒 Game Duration: Each game consists of 2 x 10-minute halves with a 1-minute halftime. (allocated a 30minute slot)
  • 🔔 Start Signal: A 3-minute whistle will signal the start of your game time slot—be ready!
  • Timeouts: Each team gets 1 timeout per game (1 minute). Use it wisely!
  • 🎯 Overtime: If tied, the first team to score a basket wins in a golden basket scenario, starting with a jump ball.
  • 🏀 Free Throws: One basket equals full points. If at the end of the half, the clock will stop at 5 seconds for the free throw.
  • 🔄 Substitutions: Make subs during dead balls or after a made basket—be sure to make yourself known to the table!
  • ⚖️ Referee Interaction: Hand the ball to the ref on both ends to keep the game flowing smoothly.
  • 🚫 Player Conduct & Safety: No jewelry allowed—cover-up non-removable stud earrings with tape, keep nails short, and maintain hygiene.
  • 🔍 Fouls: Players are allowed 4 personal fouls per game; teams can commit up to 5 fouls per half before penalties.
  • 🛑 Sportsmanship: Any unsportsmanlike or dangerous behavior may result in game suspensions. Play hard, but fair.

Day 2: Championship-Level Competition 🏆

Day 2 ramps up the intensity with full FIBA rules in effect with some tweaks. It’s time to see who can keep their cool under pressure with 10-minute quarters and strategic timeouts. The clock stops in the final 2 minutes—every second counts, every shot matters.

  • 🕒 High-stakes action: 10-minute quarters with a running clock (allocated an hour slot) with a stopping clock in the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter.
  • 🏀 Free Throws: As normal.
  • Timeouts: 1 time-out per half, which can rollover. No extra time-outs for overtime.
  • Overtime thrill: 2-minutes with a stopping clock, starting with a jump ball—who will rise to the occasion?
  • 🔄 Subs: As per usual rules—sub only on dead balls, no subs after made baskets.

2024 Schedule is Live

The South Coast Summer Classic is back, and this year’s tournament promises to be bigger and better than ever! Over two action-packed days, teams from across the UK will battle it out at the Solent Sports Complex in a thrilling showcase of basketball talent.

Day 1: Pool Games – Saturday, August 17th

Day 1 is all about setting the stage for glory! The competition is fierce. Each game is a sprint with 2×10 minute halves, and every point counts as teams vie for top spots in their pools. With a golden basket deciding any overtime, the excitement is guaranteed to be sky-high!

Day 2: Playoffs & Finals – Sunday, August 18th

Day 2 is where champions are made! The top teams from Day 1 will advance to the knockout playoffs, fighting for a chance to play in the finals on the prestigious Performance Court. The stakes are higher, the games are longer – 4×10 minute quarters – and the intensity will be off the charts. With the clock stopping in the final two minutes of the 4th quarter, every second will matter.

The excitement is reaching new heights as we unveil the thrilling structure for the second day of the South Coast Summer Classic. Day 1 was a journey of skill and determination, and now, as we step into Day 2, the stakes are higher and the competition is fiercer.

Championship Pool:

The top 2 teams from each pool secure a coveted spot in the Championship Pool.
The most winningest 3rd place team from both pools also joins this Pool.

Plate Pool:

For the teams that displayed unwavering spirit and dedication, the Plate Pool awaits.
The bottom 2 teams from each pool, along with the other 3rd place team, come together for this riveting battle.

Pathways to Victory: Championship and Plate

Championship Victory: The teams that excel in the Championship Pool are poised to claim the prestigious title of Champion. With skills sharpened and teamwork refined, the battle for this honor promises excitement beyond measure.

SCSC ’23 Rules

As the South Coast Summer Classic draws ever closer, we’re dedicated to ensuring that everyone is well-versed in the rules and regulations that will govern this thrilling event. We invite you to peruse the outlined rules for each day of the tournament, as it is imperative that all teams are acquainted with these guidelines for a seamless and exhilarating experience.

Day 1 Rules: Saturday, August 26th

🏀 FIBA Rules: For the most part, the tournament will adhere to Standard FIBA rules. For comprehensive details, please refer to: FIBA Basketball Rules
⏱️ 3-Minute Whistle: At the commencement of each time slot, referees will initiate a 3-minute whistle, allowing teams to prepare and warm up.
⏲️ Game Duration: Matches will encompass 2 x 15-minute halves, with a maximum of 1 minute for half-time.
⏱️ Time-Outs: Each team will be granted 1 time-out per game, affording a strategic pause for discussions and regrouping.
⏲️ Clock Management: During the last 1 minute of the second half, the clock will be stopped, ensuring precision and intensity during the game’s pivotal moments.
🤜🤛 Personal Fouls: Personal fouls will be reduced to 4, a slight modification to standard rules.
🏀 Team Fouls: A multiplier of 5 for team fouls will be in place.

🔄 Substitutions: Substitutions can occur after your own made basket or during a Dead Ball situation. Ensure that you make your presence known to the table as usual.
⚖️ Overtime: In the event of a tie at the close of regulation time, a golden basket rule will dictate overtime.

Day 2 Rules: Sunday, August 27th – Championship and Plate Competitions

🔄 Continuation of Day 1 Rules: The regulations established for Day 1 will persist in both the Championship and Plate Competitions on Day 2.
⚖️ Overtime: In case of a tie, overtime will consist of a 1-minute period, offering teams a brief window to break the tie and secure victory.
⏱️ Clock Management: During the last 2 minutes of the second half, the clock will be halted, ensuring precision and intensity in the critical junctures of the game.

Any unsportsmanlike, or dangerous play, may result in game suspensions.

The excitement surrounding the South Coast Summer Classic continues to build, and we’re thrilled to share that the much-anticipated tournament schedule for the weekend is now officially available on our website. Brace yourselves for two days of thrilling basketball action, community spirit, and unforgettable memories.

Day 1: Saturday, August 26th, 2023 – Determining the Path

The schedule is brimming with intense matches, where each participating team will showcase their prowess and dedication. Whether you’re a player or a fervent supporter, Saturday guarantees an enthralling lineup of competition and camaraderie. Teams are split into Group A or Group B.

Standings at the end of the Day 1 in each Group will dictate whether teams will play for the Championship or the Plate on Day 2.

Pathways Determined by Day 1 Standings

What makes this year’s tournament even more exhilarating is the pathway each team takes after Day 1. The final standings will determine whether teams advance to the Championship or Plate competition on Day 2.

  • The top 2 teams will progress to the Championship bracket.
  • The bottom 2 teams will advance to the Plate bracket.
  • The 3rd place team with the best record will move to the Championship, and the other to the Plate. In case of tied points, basket difference will decide. If tied again, points scored will determine the outcome.

 

Day 2: Sunday, August 27th, 2023 – The Climactic Conclusions

As the sun rises on the second day, the intensity escalates to new heights. Sunday’s schedule promises gripping semifinals and reaches its zenith with the grand finale, where the champions of the South Coast Summer Classic will emerge. The ambiance will be electric as teams leave it all on the court, aiming for victory and the coveted championship title.
